Our History

History

In 1990 a group of concerned residents of Richmond recognized some of their neighbours needs and set out to improve the lives of those people in their community. With a desire to ensure their community was the best that it could be, the Richmond Community Foundation was founded. With its charitable status, the Foundation has since established permanent funds in excess of one million dollars and has reached out into the community of Richmond by providing substantial grants to over 80 worthwhile organizations and initiatives, plus numerous scholarships in support of our students.

Richmond Community Foundation has provided scholarships to those who could not afford to continue their education. The Foundation has helped to feed the homeless through support of programs like the Richmond Food Bank and St. Albans' Home Meal Program. The Foundation has encouraged participation in Arts, Culture and Heritage with support of the Richmond Community Orchestra and Chorus, Richmond Arts Council, Richmond Music School and many others. Strong support has been given to programs for Families, Youth and Seniors, and the Foundation continues to build bridges for healthy cultural diversity and supports efforts to protect the environment.

The Richmond Community Foundation brings together and manages a collection of permanent endowment funds to serve the interests of the Community of Richmond in many ways. Just a few of the ways we help include:

    - Education
    - Sports & Fitness
    - Arts, Culture, History & Heritage
    - Parks and Recreation
    - Healthcare, Social Well-being
    - Children, Youth, Families & Seniors
    - The Environment

Donations to the Richmond Community Foundation are pooled and invested and the investment income is distributed to local charities and organizations. The capital is never touched and continues to grow with each new gift, generating income to meet a wide variety of community needs for years to come. In other words, "A Gift that Keeps on Giving."

Richmond Community Foundation strives to make Richmond a healthy, prosperous and safe community in which to live, work and play.
